Destination Wedding – Jorge and Margaret – full Wedding + adventure in Cartagena, Colombia

My other photography love next to weddings is documentary style travel photography. I started taking photos professionally so I could hopefully support this dream I had of being a travel Photographer.
Well last year my lovely Jane surprised me with a return ticket to Colombia, South America, for my 40th birthday, so I could see some beautiful places on the other side of the world and also photograph our friend Margaret’s Wedding.
Last year we ran a little support campaign (100 kids with a future) with Margaret and the volunteer organization Fundacion Afrocaribe, and this is where Margaret met the big friendly giant Jorge. A year or so later he proposed, and she said “yes!” and here we are!
During my 2 weeks in Colombia, I saw a lot, ate a lot, drank a lot of tequila and took a lot of photos, and I will blog some travel photos very soon, but first I wanted to share the wonderful intimate wedding of Jorge and Margaret with you, and a few photos from some of the things we did in the weeks leading up the wedding. This included a trip up into the Sierra Nevada mountains to stay in an eco-lodge in the beautiful Minca, where we swam in a pristine mountain river, a day-trip bus ride out to see Jorge’s family to enjoy some local food and experience some of Jorge’s African Heritage including a swim in the local watering hole with all the local kids on a 40deg day. I also couldn’t forget going to see the boys at the orphanage Margaret works for, where we had a birthday celebration for one of the boy’s, and I gave them my camera to play with for a few hours!
Thanks so much to Jorge and Margaret for having me for the few weeks I was there. Jorge showed me around a lot of the historic town of Cartagena where we stayed, which was just amazing, and this is where their wonderful wedding took place.
Cartagena certainly turned on the charm for us that day. Jorge and Margaret were married under an archway that is over 400 years old, and everyone partied all night long. So much colour and life!
What a beautiful town, beautiful people, something I will never forget.
Enjoy the pics.

Big thanks to Padré for letting us up into the historic bell tower for the sunset, and a walk on the roof!
